Overview of Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea
Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea, formerly known as ‘Wenlin Tea,’ is named after Mount Lushan, which is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and is often shrouded in mist and clouds. During the Ming Dynasty, Li Rihua mentioned in his work ‘Zi Tao Xuan Za Zhui’: ‘At the summit of Mount Lu, tea is produced amidst the mist and clouds, possessing an exquisite charm.’ Thus, this tea embodies the essence of high-altitude tea. Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea is one of China’s Ten Famous Teas, renowned for its ‘rich flavour, vibrant colour, fragrant aroma, and clear broth.’ Among these, the tea leaves from the region between Wulao Peak and Hanyang Peak are of the highest quality.
Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea Tasting Notes
The tea has a deep, rich flavour with a delicate, orchid-like aroma, fresh and sweet taste, and a subtle bean flower fragrance. It is durable in multiple infusions, leaving a lingering, smooth aftertaste. Influenced by Lushan’s cool, misty climate and short periods of direct sunlight, Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea develops characteristics such as robust tea leaves, thick leaves with abundant downy hairs, and a rich, sweet, and durable flavour. The authentic tea has a rich taste, a delicate fragrance like orchids, a fresh and sweet flavour, a subtle bean flower aroma, and is durable in brewing, leaving a lingering fragrance after drinking. Counterfeit or imitation teas lack these characteristics, especially those that lose their flavour after two infusions, which are definitely imitations. Upon close observation of the tea liquor, Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea has a colour similar to Tuocha tea but is lighter in hue, resembling jade in a bowl. However, when tasted, it has the fresh aroma of Longjing tea, though its flavour is more mellow and rich.
