Overview of Laozhu Dafang Fine Tea
Laozhu Dafang is produced in Laozhu Pu, Sanyangkeng, and Jinchuan in She County, Anhui Province. The highest quality is the ‘Dinggu Dafang’ produced in Laozhu Ling and Fuyuan Mountain. Laozhu Dafang was created during the Ming Dynasty and was already included in the list of tribute teas during the Qing Dynasty. According to the ‘She County Annals’: “During the Longqing era (1567–1572 AD) of the Ming Dynasty, Monk Dafang resided on Songluo Mountain in Xiuning County, where he mastered the art of tea production, and his methods were adopted by surrounding counties. At that time, tea was only produced in the northwestern mountains and on Dahan Mountain within the city. By the late Qing Dynasty, tea exports to foreign countries led to widespread cultivation, resulting in varieties such as Mao Feng, Dafang, and Hongqing. “Dafang tea is said to have been first created by the monk Dafang in Laozhu Ling, She County, hence the name Laozhu Dafang.
Laozhu Dafang Tasting
Dafang tea has excellent natural quality and strong aroma absorption capabilities, making it suitable for refined processing into ‘flower-scented Dafang’ varieties such as ‘Zhu Lan Dafang’ and ‘Jasmine Dafang.’ Additionally, Hua Dafang tea has a harmonious balance of aroma and taste, with a fresh and intense floral fragrance and a rich, mellow tea flavour. Varieties without floral scenting are commonly referred to as ‘Su Dafang’ and are also quite popular in the market. In recent years, the Japanese Pharmaceutical Association has claimed that Dafang tea has weight-loss and beauty-enhancing benefits, earning it the nickname ‘Beauty Tea.’
