Detailed Introduction to Enshi Yulu
Enshi Yulu was formerly known as ‘Yulu’ (Jade Green) due to its fresh aroma, crisp taste, emerald green colour, and white downy hairs resembling jade. It was later renamed “Yulu” (Jade Dew) to better reflect its characteristics. Enshi Yulu is a rare traditional steamed green tea in China, with its production process and tools dating back to ancient times, closely resembling the methods described in Lu Yu’s ‘The Classic of Tea.’ Since the Tang Dynasty, Japan has imported tea seeds and tea-making methods from China, and to this day, it primarily uses the steamed green tea method to produce green tea. Its Yulu tea-making method is similar to that of Enshi Yulu, though each has its own unique characteristics. Due to its excellent quality, it has developed rapidly and is exported to Japan, gaining worldwide fame. It is hailed as ‘the finest tea among teas’ and has been named one of ‘China’s Ten Famous Teas.’
Tasting Enshi Yulu
When brewed with water at 85–90°C, Enshi Yulu tea leaves unfurl like living organisms. Initially, they float gracefully in the cup before settling to the bottom like jade, releasing a fresh aroma and a mellow taste. Indeed, observing its appearance is a visual delight, and sipping its tea broth is a refreshing experience.
